THEOCRACY

What Is A Theocracy?

A theocracy is a government that is focused on obedience to God. When God created the earth, the heavens and humanity his intention was always to be in community with his creation (Gen. 3:8). He gave us everything, literally everything. Adam and Eve had access to the tree of life meaning eternal life with the Creator, and as long as they followed the one boundary that God had set for them, life was intended to be a string of purity in relationship with him, and a life of harmony and stress free as God as their King (Gen. 1:28).

He had one rule for them, and it was for their own benefit. The Creator knew that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would destroy them (Gen. 2:16-17). The Father fully intended for them, as his crown of creation, to live with him forever along with their offspring. As soon as they disobeyed that one law from their Magistrate, King, and Creator, doubt and distrust became a permanent disability. They would no longer be able to live in the innocence that is compatible with the Creator (Matt. 18:2-4). If they were allowed to live forever, knowing good and evil, there would be no way to stop the corruption on the earth.

Look around today. The evil in our world only gets worse with every generation. It seems that the only reason why evil has not yet fully overcome humanity is because each new generation represents a new start. Every generation brings with it a renewed hope to do something better for humanity. If humanity had access to the tree of life, the demise of the human race would have been realized hundreds of years ago.

Never Underestimate Your Enemy

Genesis chapters one and two give an account of the created order. The reader witnesses how God set the stage for his crown of creation, humanity, to have everything that they would need to survive and to live in harmony. Genesis chapter three, however, introduces a creature that was evidentially the most cunning of all of the other creatures in the garden (Gen. 3:1). This begs the question, why was this creature so cunning and deceptive? Where did it come from? Why was it smarter than these humans?

Humans were created in the image of God (Gen.1:26-28) which means that mankind was given knowledge, wisdom, and discernment traits that emanate from the Creator. We can also surmise that humans were given the ability to rationalize. Why was this creature challenging God’s word? Why was he allowed to cause a disruption to the peace in the garden. There are a few Scripture passages in the Bible that hint at where this deceiver came from (Is.14:12-20). We are never given a full accounting as to why this evil creature is at odds with the Creator and allowed to live in paradise alongside God’s crown of creation.

Many Bible scholars believe that the angels existed long before the earth was formed. We know one thing for sure, that the angels were created before humans were introduced into the created order. The angels who rebelled against their Creator have had millennia to study how humans behave, interact, and react. This cunning creature deliberately distorted the one command that God had given to Adam (Gen. 2:17). At the very moment that doubt in God’s word took hold, everything changed for humanity. The act of disobedience was a rejection of the Creator and signaled an acceptance of the deceiver.

Evil Sets In As The Enemy Is Allowed To Govern

The script was now flipped. Humans were meant to have dominion over the earth because that was the intent of Yahweh. It appears that when doubt set in, however, and then was acted upon, Adam and Eve handed their dominance of the earth over to the enemy.  Once the knowledge of good and evil entered and was ingested, there was no turning back. It seems that something chemically changed. Humans were not designed to experience the absence of good. God is perfect in all of his Being and in him there is wholeness. The definition of evil is the absence of good.

When humans chose to break allegiance to God they accepted the rulership of the enemy. This is what happened when God saw it necessary to flood the earth to purge it from such grotesque evil that perversion was being passed on from generation to generation (Gen. 6). Some theologians, like me, believe that evil thoughts and actions create chemical markers that attach themselves to the surface of human DNA. I believe this because of the modern technologies that reveal chemical markers on a person’s DNA that determine not only how that genetic structure will express itself, but these markers also determine how the individual behaves and reacts. This is where generational sin comes into play and can be mapped out with a genogram.

The Gift of Freewill

God gave us the gift of freewill with the intent that we would come to know him and live in community for all of eternity with him. He wants mankind to seek him by their own volition. Real love and allegiance does not come by force. Humans were created of flesh and bones, but also have a spiritual side that is just as, if not more, important than the physical side of our being.

The spiritual side is what is tied into the brain function and thought life that we have been given in order to make choices and decisions. There are two choices for people to make when it comes to how to govern our lives, either to follow the suggestions of the Creator, or to follow the suggestions of the demonic realm. There are no other choices. These are the same choices that Adam and Eve had in paradise.

It is up to each of us to decide who will be God in our lives and govern over us. Either we choose the Creator and those individuals in the physical realm who listen to him and love him, or we choose the enemy of mankind and those who listen to his voice and allow him rule over their daily lives. Either way it is a theocracy: God or god who is the enemy of mankind, it is up to you.
