Breaking Free

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

2 Cor. 10:4-6

Mind control is something that the enemy has always wanted to hold over the people of God and with the advent of modern technology and the explosion of the neurological understanding of how the human mind gathers information, it has never been easier for bad actors to mislead and traumatize others. It may come as a complete surprise to many, but the reality of mind control is a serious reality. It can happen to anyone, young or old, the educated and the uneducated. We get messaging through programming on the television and the algorithms that are built into social media. Never before in history has humanity been constantly bombarded with so much information.

The messages that we receive daily have the potential of building strongholds in our minds that are simply not true, and many are not even connected to reality. If we are not careful, our minds can be hijacked by the enemy. The enemy would like nothing more than to deceive us into believing a plethora of lies, many of which will lead to death, both physically and spiritually. When we take in knowledge, we change our brain especially when we then commit to believing that particular idea. This is a wonderful thing when the knowledge that we consume is true (based on reality) and beneficial to life. Our Creator is amazing when we realize the way that he so masterfully created our bodies and our brains.

I believe that everyone is aware that it is possible to trick people using powerful psychological tools. This happens to kidnap and abused victims all of the time. It is tragic. With the advent of television and the public use of the internet, it is easier to manipulate large numbers of people all at once. The tactics used become even more powerful when the masses are only allowed to hear one side of an argument. This is why that in war; the attacker usually focuses on destroying anything or anyone that holds to a contrary belief to the ideology that the attackers want to force the people to believe. There is usually an attempt to erase history and religious beliefs that do not fit the narrative. Strongholds become a reality once someone is manipulated into believing a lie.

This is something that does not happen with the God of Israel. The Bible has preserved for us the history of the Hebrew people and how the nation of Israel was formed. It is through history that Yahweh reveals to humanity his nature and his character. God does not coerce, manipulate, or lie to humanity. He lays it all out there, in order that we make an informed decision about what and who to believe. We are called to focus on God’s Christ (Messiah) and to seek discernment. God’s powerful gift of thought and the amazing resilience of our brain is no doubt one of the main reasons the psalmist proclaims that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14). This is because, if we allow for deception to take us captive, we could very well be risking physical death and worse, separation from God for all of eternity. Choose life - Guard you mind and always seek Truth.
